The NTSB dispatched a Go-Team the evening of Mar. 22 from Washington to Japanto help in the investigation of the crash of a FedEx MD-11 on approach to Narita International Airport on Monday, Mar. 23.In a statement, FedEx confirmed that Flight 80, which had originated in Guangzhou, China, was involved in the incident at 2100Zulu (7:00am local time).According to the NTSB, the aircraft (registration not known at this writing) burned after it came to rest. The condition of the crew was unknown at the time both FedEx and the NTSB issued their initial statements.Japanese authorities will lead the investigation. The NTSB has designated Senior Air Safety Investigator John Lovell as U.S.accredited representative. He is joined by two additional NTSB investigators, along with representatives from the FAA, Boeing and the Air Line Pilots Assn.Aviation Week will provide updates as details unfold.
