There's something magical about flying into Paris Charles De Gaulle airport. Chances are your flight will be directed to one of the remote hardstands, and you'll get up close and personal with your fellow passengers as 60 people are crammed into a bus that should hold 40. Then the long, convoluted drive to your terminal, then another bus ride to the right terminal for your connecting flight, then another bus ride to the next aircraft...

Aside from all of that, CDG can certainly provide some excitement. On my flight into CDG on August 25, the Air France 747 had to bail out of its approach because of what the captain calmly told the passengers was "another aircraft on our runway." About a week later on a return flight to CDG, we taxied past an Air France plane that had smoke pouring off (what looked to be) one of its tires. My bemused fellow-travelers watched as a squadron of emergency vehicles roared past us with sirens blaring.

Yes, never a dull moment at this lovely airport. (Maybe its just me -- other travelers may have nothing but good experiences at CDG).
