EADS CEO Tom Enders was going to head for Tianjin this week as part of an official German government delegation accompanying Chancellor Angela Merkel on her visit to China. But he had to cancel the trip and all other meetings set up this week. No EADS crisis, at least none that we know of, is behind it. Enders has suffered a sports injury and can’t travel at all this week. EADS does not say what exactly happened, but stressed that it was not a paragliding accident or anything similar. Also, an official says Enders will be “operational” again next week. Enders is very much into all kinds of sports: amongst others he runs marathons, does parachuting (sometimes from Airbus A400Ms). He is also an enthusiastic helicopter pilot, although that does not really count as sports. While not travelling, he will likely miss a big Airbus order announcement in Tianjin on Friday, where a 100-aircraft commitment for China Eastern is expected. But if his recovery remains on track, he will at least be able to attend the Berlin Air Show starting 11 September. Enders has been the driving force behind upgrading ILA to a more significant air show in recent years and he is expected to make his first serious public appearance there as EADS CEO since he took over the job in June.
