  • Island Air Ready to Grow

Hawaii's Island Air is sitting pretty. Believing that the market has stabilized, and the airline itself is profitable, it is ready to take its four-aircraft fleet to six, and is ready to add one or two more Dash-8-100s, or -200s.

President Lesley Kaneshiro says the airline also is talking about some new aircraft options with ATR, Fokker, Saab and SuperJet.

She says the airline wants to meet small community needs, and now that it feels those have been met, it can look to other markets "where jets fly."

But the privately owned airline plans is not in a rush. "We want to grow slowly," says Kaneshiro.

It code-shares with United/Continental and Hawaiian Airlines, and says the good thing about its partners is they allow the small Hawaiian operator to pursue other partnerships.
