  • Air India Express Crash

    An Air India Express Boeing 737-800 has overrun the runway at Mangalore airport breaking apart and catching fire around 6.30 a.m. local time.
    Flight IX812 was arriving from Dubai. Initial estimates say 158 persons died, with eight survivors -- the aircraft was carrying 160 passengers and six crew. The aircraft was registered as VT-AXT.
    The airline operates a fleet of 24 737-800s.
    The table top Mangalore airport is considered a difficult approach and requires special training.
    It is the worst crash of a 737-800 by fatalities, according to the Aviation Safety Network. It notes it is the third worst crash in India.
