As I blogged yesterday, the economic situation and V Australia's entry into the market has started a fare war on U.S.-Australia service. Now comes word that Qantas is striking back with roundtrip, tax-inclusive fares between Los Angeles and various points in Australia and New Zealand for as low as $676. That even beats the $722 tax-inclusive fare I found on Delta yesterday. The better question might be not how low can they go, but how low can the airlines go and still make a profit on the routes?
