GE Aviation, expanding on its TRUEngine program, is adding a used life-limited parts history (LLP) designation that operators can use to gain more transparency on overhauls that incorporate the parts, and the OEM itself will use to bolster credibility of its own used parts in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Under the program, announced today at MRO Europe, LLP will be subjected to back-to-birth records audits to ensure they have been maintained to the OEM's specs. "LLP will be qualified at the part level and at a specific time-since-new and cycles-since-new," GE says. Those that pass the audits will earn the TRUEEngine LLP designation.
Documentation detailing LLP history will accompany parts sold through GE Aviation's materials business, the leading source of serviceable used parts for GE engines.
The program will be rolled out in phases, and will cover the CFM56, CF34, CF6, GE90, and GEnx engines.
Launched in 2008, TRUEngine is GE's program that stamps a certificate of approval on engines maintained to the OEM's standards. Some 110 operators have earned certification for 8,200 engines since the program's inception.
By stamping "TRUEngine LLP" on its own parts, GE stands to gain an advantage over competitors that source used serviceable. GE Engine Services already is the top supplier of used serviceable engine parts, according to SH&E. Last year the company accounted for 17% of the $1.35 billion in used serviceable engine spares.
