I don't know if this is a warning shot or a statement of events that already have transpired, but its bears watching. At Delta's "Investor Day" Dec. 9, an analyst asked airline President Ed Bastian about the carrier's regional jet portfolio.
Delta now owns Mesaba, Compass and Comair, but Bastian indicated there won't be any cutbacks there. Any cutbacks, he said, will be at contracted regional carriers for "not meeting customer performance targets." Delta already cut Freedom's CRJ-900 Delta Connection agreement on those grounds earlier this year (subscriber-only story), so I'm not sure if Delta is talking about its ongoing battles with Mesa Air Group over these issues or talking about possible future actions.
Bastian also said Delta also still is looking to lower its utilization levels under current regional contracts, where permissible.
