AAR’s Lake Charles, La. facility, which opened in September by using a short-term approval through its Miami facility’s operating certificate, received its own in mid-November. This certification means AAR is now up to 14 FAA-certified repair stations.

The facility also just completed its first heavy check--on an Airbus A330. (AAR didn’t disclose the owner or operator.)

So far the Lake Charles facility employs about 100 people and is happy with the ramp up, says spokesman Chris Mason.

One of the next big steps will occur mid-2014, when it is scheduled to open a 112,000-sq.-ft. hangar that will be big enough to house an A380 or Boeing 747-8. It clearly will need to hire more MRO employees by then.
