Virgin Blue confirms it has signed an agreement with Boeing which covers firm orders for 50 737-800s, with 25 options and 30 future purchase rights. The full airline statement, posted to the Australian Stock Exchange, can be found here.
The official signing follows nine months of negotiations. An in-principle agreement had previously been announced by the airline.
Delivery of the firm orders is scheduled from 2011-2017. Virgin states this is the largest aircraft order in the carrier’s 10-year history, and Boeing’s biggest order in the past 18 months. A “significant portion” of the aircraft are earmarked for fleet replacement, with the rest for growth.
