EADS has today updated its financial guidance in the positive direction, noting that Airbus should book around 1,500 gross orders for the year. That is, no doubt, an impressive figure, but could it signal that Airbus will have a relatively moderate order intake at the Dubai air show? After all, the aircraft maker, through October, already had 1,372 firm orders booked for 2011. Since then, it has managed to finalize the deal with Republic Airways for 80 A320NEO family aircraft. In effect, it means EADS is either understating what the likely 2011 firm order total will be, or Airbus will not end the year with the usual spurt of last minute deals one has become accustomed to with the aircraft maker.
