A day later than planned due to paperwork issues, AirBridge Cargo (ABC) finally took delivery of its first Boeing 747-8F at Everett, Wash, on Jan 26. The airline, which has five 747-8Fs on firm order as well as five on option, will receive two more this year and a further pair in 2013.The first aircraft awaits delivery on the Everett ramp. (all photos Guy Norris)The initial trio will replace elderly 747-200/300 'Classic' freighters, while the balance will be used to expand operations. ABC currently operates eight 747-400Fs (including three -400ERFs) as well as the three Classics. ABC's third 747-8F is nearing completion in the 40-22 building. The innauguration of 747-8F service will help drive down the average age of the fleet from eight years to just two says ABC marketing director Varvara Britaeva. "The average age of the current Classic fleet is 22 years, so by replacing them we will be able to significantly increase reliability and on-time performance."Aft fuselage side cargo door is visible in this image of the third ABC aircraft.
