The airline expects to receive five of the aircraft this year and will display one of its 787s at the Farnborough air show in July.

The airline says initial operations will focus on intra-Gulf routes, to give crew experience with the aircraft, before commencing Doha-London service.

Airline CEO Akbar Al Baker says "th
is magnificent aircraft promises to enhance the travel experience for our passengers through space, comfort and many new interior features exclusive to Qatar Airways;" that's a stark turnaround from 2009 when the same CEO threatened to walk away from the 787 order when the program fell behind schedule. At the time, Al Baker also blasted Boeing for being run by bean-counters and lawyers.
