  • ATR Marks Delivery of 1,000th Turboprop
Posted by Robert Wall 6:52 AM on May 03, 2012

ATR today celebrated the delivery of its 1,000th turboprop.

The aircraft, MSN999 (MSN1000 has already been delivered) goes to Air Nostrum. It is the airline’s second ATR 72-600; the first was delivered last week. The formal change of ownership is actually not planned until early next week (the first five of ten Air Nostrum -600s on firm order are being leased from Nordic Aviation Capital).

The first ATR turboprop flew in 1984, with the first delivery occurring on December 3, 1985. “This European joint venture is a good investment for France and Italy,” says Filippo Bagnato, ATR’s CEO.

The aircraft maker has more than 200 aircraft in its backlog. Production rates are going up, so the delivery of the 2,000th aircraft should occur much faster. The future production rate plan is still in flux, but the next major milestone should occur no later than 15 years from now.
