Alaska Airlines has unveiled a Boeing 737-400 specially painted to celebrate Alaska's 50 years of statehood - and it doesn't feature governor Sarah Palin or her family.

Christened Spirit of Alaska Statehood, the 737 has been painted in a livery designed by 16-year-old Sitka high school student Hannah Hamberg. It features such Alaska icons as a musher and sled dog, state ferry, native canoe, a bear and a whale.

Hannah won a statewide "paint the plane" contest and her design was applied to the aircraft at Aviation Technical Services in Everett, Wash. where, the airline says, it took 48 painters 14 days to apply some 160 gallons of paint in 21 colors.

Oh, and Alaska's press release says "Governor Palin supported the contest...", so at least she got a mention.
