Flying Boeing 787
Qatar Airways 787
Air France announced today that Washington D.C. will be the fifth destination, and second U.S. city served by the A380. Air France already flies A380s to New York’s JFK, Johannesburg, Tokyo and Montreal. My colleague Elyse Moody reported on the possibility of this happening back in September. The Paris Charles de Gaulle to Washington route has been in operation since 1964, currently served by Boeing 777-200s. Air France says that by combining two flights that leave at similar times, it can offer the same seat capacity on board the A380 and save 20% in operating costs. Air France’s A380s have 538 seats across three cabins. The jumbo service starts on 6 June 2011. Seats went on sale today.
