FAA has posted a really interesting new video on how the Collaborative Decision Making program works. I’ve been following this effort for many years, but it still gave me a new insight into exactly how important CDM is.

Here’s the link to the video. It explains how CDM developed, and how it is a crucial element in many aspects of the NextGen effort. An airline representative talks about how it gives FAA’s “customers” a voice in the real-time operation of the U.S. airspace system. The major vehicle of CDM is a teleconference that includes FAA facilities across the country, the Command Center at Herndon, Va., and airspace users. The call is held every two hours depending on the severity of conditions.
