  • MAS Gets Its First A380
Posted by Rupa Haria 3:35 AM on May 29, 2012

Malaysia Airlines today became the eight carrier to get an A380 after it took delivery of the first of six Airbus 380s in Toulouse.

From 2 July, the airline will operate the superjumbo three times a week from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur. The second A380 will enter service in August, enabling MAS to move to a daily London-KL schedule.

The double decker is configured with 494 seats – 350 in economy and eight in first class downstairs. Upstairs there are 66 business class seats and 70 economy class seats.

Oneworld members will have to wait until the end of the year before taking advantage of the new service – the airline says it’s due to join the alliance in the last quarter of 2012.

Thai Airways will be the ninth A380 operator when it takes delivery later this year.
