  • Another 787 VIP Deal In The Offing?
Posted by Robert Wall 12:44 PM on Jun 20, 2012

Boeing may be close to securing another VIP customer for its 787-8 product line.

The aircraft in question is one of the flight test aircraft now undergoing refurbishment at the company’s San Antonio, Tex., facility. The aircraft does not have an owner yet, but the company is close to finalizing a deal.

The aircraft is the first of three 787s San Antonio plans to refurbish; the company has already completed three 787s undergoing change incorporation.

Work on the aircraft, the sixth flight test aircraft, ZA006, began in February and is due to wrap up in May 2013 – the duration for a refurbishment is aircraft dependent. In the case of the six flight test aircraft, 98% of wiring is being changed and the blankets also are being replaced.

San Antonio is due to continue 787 work until 2015, with provisions to take on additional aircraft requiring change incorporation should that become necessary.
