Earlier this week, FAA proposed a $1 million fine against Horizon Air for flying Bombardier DHC-8 turboprops with the wrong rivets. Today, FedEx faces a $681,200 penalty for supposedly flying "several dozen" shipments of hazardous materials. FedEx also faces FAA scrutiny for supposedly not providing proper hazmat training and testing for 3 people. But the big potential fine--up to $162 million--goes to American Airlines. The Wall Street Journal reported that FAA is seeking civil penalties against the carrier, as discovered in bankruptcy case filings.
