Just days after Algerian carrier Tassili announced it would buy three Embraer 190 regional jets, the Brazilian aircraft maker says the deal now is not taking place.
Embraer says that after being announced as the winner in the competition, its representatives in Algeria were approaches by those from the airline "requesting a change in specific conditions of the proposal presented and evaluated in the process of the public bidding contest." Embraer says it wouldn't agree to the changes and thus has been disqualified from the bid process.
The contract was supposed to be signed today.
Tassili Airlines also announced it was buying four Boeing 737-800s. It also still had an unmet need for 70-seat regional jets. All the purchases are part of a wider fleet modernization plan the airline had spelled out to become a full domestic and international carrier.
