  • C919, Others Prepare for Order Inflow
Posted by Robert Wall 1:45 PM on Nov 15, 2010

It’s not exactly an order boom a la the Dubai air show, but Airshow China in Zhuhai is ready to roll out its set of order announcement in the next few days – whether any will be for foreign airlines is another matter.

Scheduled are several signings for the MA-600 turboprop, the ARJ21 regional jet, and also the Z9 helicopter.

The order highlight will come at the outset of the event, when the first Chinese airlines formally sign on too buy the Comac C919 narrowbody. The deals are expected to come from China Southern, China Eastern and Air China and represent. Avic officials indicate the orders could top 100 units.

Just do not call the orders the “launch orders” for the C919. As our Asia-Pacific Bureau Chief Bradley Perrett points out, the C919 was launched a while back, without the customary orders that go along with commercial ventures. So there is no launch order for the C919, there is just a first order.

It will be interesting to see, though, who becomes the first operator.
