The focus of the investigation into the June 1, 2009 crash of Air France flight 447 is now in its final stage.
The salvage operations on the Ile de Sein are completed, the French air accident investigation office (BEA) says.
The vessel is now on its way to Las Palmas. Next week, it is due in Bayonne, France, where recovered aircraft parts will be transhipped to a DGA facility in Toulouse for further inspection and analysis.
Onboard are also human remains of some of the 228 persons who died onboard. Those bodies will be taken to a forensic mortuary, the BEA says.
An interim report from the BEA on AF447 is due soon, with the final report expected next year.
An initial factual report has already highlighted important lessons from the crash. Our report on that can be read here.
