A number of you commented on our article on the UK Advertising Standards Authority's (ASA) ruling on the Boeing 747-8 advert that sparked a complaint (and those Pinocchio ads) from Airbus.
The article includes Airbus’ response to the ASA ruling, outlining why John Leahy believes the regulator got it wrong. We also quote an airline industry source who tells us there is hardly any unit cost difference between the 747-8 and A380, but that data does suggest a trip cost advantage in excess of 20% for Boeing.

Boeing’s Randy Tinseth has now fired back on his blog. “After the complaint, we defended our position and supplied plenty of material to back it up — and the ASA concluded that our 747-8 stats were well-substantiated.”
Tallying orders, Tinseth notes that Airbus hasn’t booked any firm orders for the A380 this year, while Boeing has bagged five firm orders for the 747-8 passenger variant.
His parting words on the subject: “While they worry about ads in Toulouse, we’ll stay focused on our sales campaigns and making the 747-8 even better. After all, the proof is in the performance.”
