Flying Boeing 787
Qatar Airways 787
You may have noticed our special report on the Dubai Airshow, where there has been lots of commercial aviation news and blogging despite the fact that it's been a relatively quiet event. Some of the stories include Airbus's success in securing additional orders, Boeing's Algerian 737 deal, Ethiopian confirming its A350XWB deal, Oman Air signing up for Embraer 175s, and of course the new Airbus A320 winglets. About which Robert Wall blogged: “Why has it taken so long,” questions Randy Tinseth, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president for marketing, noting that Boeing installed winglets on its commercial aircraft a long time ago. Airbus has argued it didn’t have to move as quickly as Boeing because the A320 wing was already more efficient than the 737s; that gave Airbus time to find an optimized design, the aircraft maker maintains. But Tinseth is also trying to stoke anxiety over the pending development at Airbus. “There is risk involved in what they are doing,” he says, including whether Airbus can offset the weight increases that have to be made to the wing box to handle the greater loads from the winglets. Here's the link to the Dubai blog, and take a look at Wall asking about what aircraft list prices mean
