  • B&CA Team Does NBAA

Now that the press announcements are pretty much over, the buzz has begun in the main convention areas. It's pretty easy to get lost and there is way, way too much to see. (It's NBAA, and I shouldn't expect it would be any different this time.) Looks pretty crowded around the registration areas, but we will have to wait for the official registration numbers sometime tomorrow. Those crowds can be deceiving.

Here's what we've heard and seen so far: The new Dassault 5X was announced yesterday. It's the biggest, most advanced Falcon in amost a decade. B&CA will have a complete report in our November issue with some digital extras in the Zinio version. Embraer announced its Lineage 1000E and is hoping to capture some of the VVIP business from Boeing and Airbus. Boeing says that the market for large business jets is not brisk, but they remain ahead of their rivals. Deliveries for VIP-747-8s and 787s are at last imminent. Wheels Up's record-breaking King Air order of 100+ has prompted Beechcraft and P&WC to forge a new 'one-stop shop' aircraft-engine support package.

Flexjet (Directional Aviation Capital) has 60 Learjet 85s on order and options for another 65. "If you want to fly the Learjet 85, you have to come to us," says Deanna White, Flexjet president.

Honeywell's annual Forecast is scaled back, but the company still sees a $250 billion market. Honeywell found that 55% of new purchase plans are for large-cabin aircraft. The large-cabin group also will represent 89% of the value of new business jets, the forecast predicts.

Nextant will rebuild King Air C90s with GE engines and Garmin 1000 avionics suites instead of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21. Beechcraft issued a strong rebuff to Nextant and its program saying it will not endorse the Nextant program and any customers for the remanufacturered aircraft will find themselves cut off from the OEM's official service and support network (pretty strong words). Of course the rumors abound around the possibiity that Beechcraft is for sale, again.
