MD-11s continue to be retired as World Airways and KLM remove the type from their fleets. A total of seven MD-11s have been retired so far, all in 2012, including four passenger variants and three cargo variants. Two MD-11s recently purchased by FedEx are included in this total as they were purchased for spares use. Freighter conversions were once the norm for the MD-11, but the last conversion was completed nearly two years ago and available feedstock has dwindled to less than 15 aircraft, nearly all of which are currently being operated by World Airways and KLM.
