It's a big week for Alenia Aeronautica's Sky-Y unmanned aircraft demonstrator. First, the vehicle was selected as the demonstrator at the heart of a major European collaboration for a potential medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft project. Next, Sky-Y completeed its first flight.

The flight at the Vidsel flight test facility in Sweden lasted about 30 min. Maximum altitude was 3,000 ft. and top speed 110 ktas. Eventually, Alenia plans to bring the demonstrator to its maximum endurance of 12 hours and max altitude of more than 20,000 ft.
