DUBAI--I've always operated under the assumption that the engine was the place to be if you wanted to make any real money in the PMA market, but I guess I'm wrong (no big surprise there). PMA maker Heico is seeing a "huge push" from its customers, including BA and Lufthansa, for PMA parts on cabin interior items like lav parts, tray tables and IFE touch screens, according to Kate Schaefer, SVP of sales at Heico. Speaking earlier today at our MRO Middle East Conference & Exhibition here in Dubai, Schaefer said there is "enormous" potential in PMAs for interior parts, at least in part because interior component OEMs "are doing a terrible job" delivering the product. She also said they implement price increases that "make GE look like a walk in the park." In the first year of its contract with BA, Heico produced five interior parts, including a tray table, that saved the airline $2 million, Schaefer said.
