With the opening of its new Airbus A380 maintenance hangar at Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP), Lufthansa Technik now has A380-capable hangars in both Manila and in China at Ameco Beijing. The new Manila hangar cost $30 million and is large enough to handle one widebody and two narrowbodies simultaneously. LHT Chairman August Wilhelm Henningsen said at the Singapore air show that LTP plans initially to do cabin mods and other modifications on the A380.The Ameco hangar, opened two years ago, is large enough to handle four A380s at once and is primarily used for line maintenance. Ameco partner Air China does not operate A380s, so there are no current plans to do A380 heavy maintenance at the Beijing facility. Construction of the hangar was part of a five-year, $120 million expansion project at Ameco.
