  • NTSB: Fractured Bracket Led To Jammed ATR 72 Elevator
Posted by Sean Broderick 4:27 PM on Jan 09, 2010

Broken down elevator stop brackets led to a jammed elevator on an Executive Airlines ATR 72 Christmas night, forcing the flight crew to land with no trim, an NTSB preliminary report found.

Investigators determined that the left elevator stop brackets broke, causing the stop to come loose and jam the elevator.

The flight, en route to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) from Midland, experienced problems before the approach, eventually losing all but about 1 inch of up and down pitch. The crew declared an emergency, made a "shallow" approach, and set the plane down smoothly.
