There is approximately 2.5 times more capacity in the CFM overhaul market than there is demand, according to Tom Gentile, VP and GM, Services, for GE Aviation. But Gentile, speaking in Miami Beach at Aviation Week's MRO Conference & Exhibition (#MROAM), doesn't think we'll see a shakeout in the market. He said there likely will be some consolidation around the fringes, but that structurally the market doesn't require a shakeout. One of the factors driving the capacity picture is that low-cost countries want help in setting up MRO capabilities, said Gentile. That makes sense given that many countries require offsets when their airlines buy from Western companies.
