As British Airways prepares for the arrival of its first Airbus A380 next year, the airline’s engineering arm has also completed a major challenge: it added more than 138 tonnes of steelwork to the roof of its hangar at Heathrow to create an “eyebrow” for the 24 meter tail fin of the super jumbo. That work, along with a docking solution that accommodates up to ten widebody types including the Boeing 787, completes the upgrades needed for BA Engineering to handle work for its own and customer A380s. The hangar was put to the test when Airbus flew in a jumbo, pictured here:The airline says modifications on a second bay are due to start next month.
