The FAA today issued an AD affecting GE CF6-80E1 series engines. The engines are installed on, but not limited to, A330 aircraft. For engines with certain part number compressor rear frames (CRFs) installed, the AD mandates revisions to the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) of the manufacturer's Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) and air carrier's approved Continued Airworthiness Maintenance Programs (CAMP) for initial and repetitive inspections.
The AD is intended to monitor CF6-80E1 series engine CRFs for cracks, which potentially could lead to rupturing and under-cowl engine fires. It takes effect on Sept. 26.
