The ARSA-sponsored Aviation Alliance Insurance Risk Retention Group, Inc. (AAIRRG) has hit 50 members (.pdf) less than a year. Wheeling, Ill.'s Aircraft Propeller Service, Inc. was the half-century milestone enrollee, AAIRRG President Bill Perdue announced.AAIRRG was formed to help lower the burden of rising aircraft product liability insurance costs, which left repair stations lumped in with the rest of aviation when it came to determining risk. Seeking an alternative, ARSA backed the effort to form a risk retention group. After several years of start-up work, AAIRRG got its insurance license last June from the state of Montana, where it is based.Lots more information on AAIRRG here.Speaking of ARSA, a tip of the cap to Executive Director Sarah MacLeod for capturing an ATA Nuts and Bolts award. Safe to say that few in aviation maintenance have done more with fewer resources; bootstrapping your industry's very own insurance company is but one item on a very long (and growing) list of her team's accomplishments.
