Some interesting numbers in this here Bloomberg story regarding start-up Scoot, launched last year and fresh off completing its maiden scheduled flight. Carrier execs claim that its switch to iPads for in-flight entertainment cut the weight of its Boeing 777s by 7 percent, even after factoring in a 40-percent increase in seating on the aircraft as configured by parent company Singapore Airlines. The carrier's initial fleet will consist of four ex-Singapore 777s, each configured with 400 seats--32 up front, where iPad rental comes with the ticket, and 368 in the back, where you must pay a bit for in-flight tablet computing.
