Ohio-based Aero-Instruments said Thursday that its FAA PMA-approved pitot tubes for Airbus aircraft, including the A330, are ready for delivery. Aero-Instruments got PMA approval for the pitot tubes earlier this month. Aero-Instruments' PMA approval timing, 18 months in the making, is fortunate: A330 and A340 operators with certain models of Thales pitot tubes are facing a mandatory swap-out per an EASA AD issued earlier this month. The AD stems from the probe of the June 1 crash of Air France Flight 447, though no definitive link between the performance of that plane's pitot tubes and the accident's cause has been made.
