In an earlier version of this post, it was brought to my attention that I incorrectly identified that the test stand would be used for APU repairs. It is actually used for actuators.
Yesterday Lee Ann, Elyse and I met with our video crew to check out some MROs around the Miami area. One of the MROs we visited was Barfield
, a Sabena technics company that specializes in avionics repair and overhaul as well as GSE manufacturing and support.
About a year and a half ago, Barfield expanded its capabilities to include hydraulics testing, repair and overhaul for Boeing, Airbus and regional aircraft. Because Barfield has more than 60 years' experience with working on fault detection and isolation for avionics components, adding a hydraulics capability made the most sense for starting an expansion into other types of repairs, says Sébastien Losy, Barfield's director of communications and marketing.
Here's a look at the Avtron hydraulic test stand for Boeing and Airbus aircraft at Barfield's facility in Miami, Fla. Barfield purchased the equipment new from the manufacturer. (Photo credit: Barfield)
