Skymark Airlines just picked the engines for the six Airbus A380s it ordered last November, when it became the first Japanese airline to order the jumbo jet. Rolls-Royce won the powerplant competition for those aircraft and also secured a long-term TotalCare support contract for the Trent 900 engines. The manufacturer says the Trent 900s will provide a 2% improvement in fuel efficiency through design and material changes, compared to the Trent 900s operating today. This marks the first order from Skymark for Rolls. The airline expects to receive its first A380 in 2014.
