Rolls-Royce received ETOPS approval from the FAA for its Trent 1000, which is one of the engine options for the Boeing 787 (the other is GE Aviation's GEnx). FAA granted 330 minutes of extended twin-engine operations to the Trent 1000, which enables shorter flight times due to routes that are more direct.

Here are some interesting tidbits on Trent 1000 maintenance from Rolls-Royce:

    1. The fan case has accessories mounted on it and borescope ports are positioned at eye level. The manufacturer's website says "this allows the Trent 1000 to require 50% lower scheduled line maintenance than its competitor."

    2. It also says the engine features 20% more predictive monitoring system capabilities than other engines.
