  • Is TRUEngine a Competition Limiter?
Posted by Frank Jackman 9:33 AM on Jul 15, 2008

CFM International's just launched TRUEngine program. under which it essentially will provide an OEM seal of approval to engines equipped only with genuine CFM parts is "another attempt ... to limit competition" in the CFM56 aftermarket, says Matthew Bromberg, who heads Pratt & Whitney's Global Material Solutions foray into the CFM56-3 parts aftermarket. CFMI yesterday said it had granted the TRUEngine designation to 500 CFM56-3 and -7B engines operated by Continental. The airline was quoted in a CFM press release as saying the designation will make the engines more marketable and should bring in a higher price as it seeks to get rid of the 737 Classics they power.
