Airframe MRO is an extremely competitive market today, and it appears it will only get more competitive because several hangars are being constructed around the world AND because some airlines that usually don't do third-party maintenance are starting to offer their excess capacity to other operators. As one MRO exec told me, "I've got new competitors in the Middle East and Asia that I didn't even know were competitors."Both Chris Doan of TeamSAI and David Stewart of ICF SH&E mentioned in the MRO Europe forecast session that the complexity and barriers to entry for component and engine MRO means it's likely that emerging markets will embrace launching airframe maintenance operations first.
