I found out some more details on the Dispatch program contract Rockwell Collins and Airbus inked to provide services for the leased Airbus A330s Singapore Airlines is scheduled to receive in January (You can read our MRO Channel story on it here.) The contract is for seven years, Rockwell Collins representative Pam Tvrdy confirmed. She added this via email in response to my questions about Singapore's existing Dispatch contract with Rockwell Collins for its A380 fleet and trends for newer aircraft maintenance in Asia-Pacific: "Our SIA Dispatch Program has been very successful and definitely has played a role in the A330 decision. As the economics of our industry change and the airlines understand the significant dollars that are tied up in spares, there is a natural inclination to look for alternative means to support the aircraft. Once we are able to give the airline the confidence that the asset will be there when they need it, they are very comfortable changing to this new support model. It frees up significant cash and gives the airline a fixed operational cost, which helps in their cost control strategy."
