At the MRO Middle East conference this week, talk of unrest in surrounding areas was surprisingly hushed. I heard very little about current events unless I asked directly.

However, one of my speakers from Royal Jordanian, Mr. Tiymor Kalimat  -- an expert in airline finance and outsourcing contracts -- mentioned the political situation in Egypt following one of my sessions. He asked Mr. Eng. Hisham Nasser of Egyptair, who graciously headed up a roundtable discussion here in Dubai, about his trip home.

As we know, Egyptair's operations in Cairo have been significantly disrupted for the time being. Nasser indicated that while he expected to make it back to Cairo, he wasn't sure if he'd be able to leave the airport proper today. Kalimat said much the same of Jordan, where a similar breed of political unrest seems to be rising.

When asked about any impact on line maintenance operations in Cairo, the guys I spoke to at Lufthansa Technik didn't have any updates to share yet.

At present, it seems to be a wait-and-see situation for airlines.
