  • Boeing 747-8 Video: Rejected Takeoff Test
Posted by Elyse Moody 1:33 PM on Jun 22, 2011

Boeing's 747-8 Intercontinental left Paris on Tuesday night, just after the 787 arrived.

It made a dramatic arrival here on Sunday morning (see our LIVE coverage here), but parts of its test program have been dramatic as well. Boeing's footage of its rejected takeoff tests or RTO is really amazing. Let's take a look.

In the RTO, Boeing says the Goodrich brakes actually beat targets, stopping short by about 700 ft.

Here at Le Bourget, standing inside the freighter version, I talked with Boeing's Justin Hale about the 747-8's certification program. He says the certification conditions for the freighter are nearly done -- about 97% complete. The FNR (function and reliability) airplane, which isn't the one Boeing brought to Paris, is finishing up its test program.

The freighter at Paris was the test airplane for environmental control conditions (
see its Sunday morning landing here). It should finish up at the end of this month or next, then it will go to San Antonio for refurbishments. Staff there will "zero out" its maintenance requirements, take out the test equipment and carry out change incorporation activities.
