R U a “Twibacle” waiting to happen for your company?!  In light of several FaceBook and Twitter incidents where employees thought they were within their rights expressing opinions via social media and those posts came back to bite either them and/or the company, I’m wondering how many of you out there understand your company’s social media policy – if indeed one even exists.

Example, if you’re currently walking the halls at Avalon and Tweet about something your company has on its stand, are you technically cleared to do that?  Do you know?  There should not be any grey area when it comes to an employee’s role in social media.  Keep in mind if you work for a publicly held company and you inadvertently disclose material information (meaning anything that could impact the company’s stock price) you and your leadership team could be in store for serious repercussions.  In addition, the trickier pitfalls can be innocent posts from an employees touting something their company makes or does and not disclosing that they work for the company.  That can quickly turn into an on-line firestorm that can erode a company's reputation in the blink of an eye, or in this case, a keystroke or two.  Food for thought... be careful out there...
