  • VIP Completions Hopping

    Aviation Week has reported that widebody aircraft MRO capacity could become pretty tight over the next couple of years, especially in Asia-Pacific.

    I bring this up because I just talked with Simon McKay, Aerospace Technologies Group president and CEO, who told me the VIP completions market is “very active” now, and as more aircraft such as the Boeing 747-8i are ready for the completions market, that could impact suppliers of interior equipment such as cabinetry and seats.

    VIP completions are big projects to start with, but when you have several going on for big aircraft such as the 747-8i, will this throw a curveball to the market?

    ATG, which makes dual window shade systems for airline and business jet aircraft, is supplying its product for VIP completions being done in Asia, Europe and the U.S. right now. McKay says ATG is not having trouble meeting demand and is working on new technology, including being able to digitally control shades from a seat’s touch screen system.
