Bobby Janagan, general manager engine leasing for Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance, asked an interesting question today: why do engine turnaround times not dramatically reduce?

Sure, engine maintainers and manufacturers have done a good job with Lean, workscopes and planning, but it appears things like logistics and customs clearances still add variability. Janagan says it can take a month to get an engine cleared through customs in Brazil, for instance.

When you are talking 60-90 days to overhaul an engine, an extra 30 days is sizable.
