Per Noren, VP Commercial Aviation Information Services for Boeing, keynoted our MRO IT conference this morning at MRO Europe today--and he helped close it, too. He talked this morning about data being in "cylinders of excellence" and stovepiped--for instance, flight operations staying in flight ops. Data needs to be shared to connect the dots and harness the greater good from linking everything from digital aircraft data to maintenance and passenger services. "Think big!" he urged. Noren stressed that "it's about using your imagination" to figure out how you want to use the data, then implement it. The industry doesn't lack inspiration or innovative ideas, but implementing them can lag. At the conclusion of the last MRO IT session during a panel discussion, he pointed to speakers who provided good examples of sharing data and driving better results. Airberlin Technik, Finnair, Turkish Technic and TAP all fall in this category. Kudos to these companies and thanks for providing these concrete examples! Noren said that showcasing case studies like the ones today will help the industry get the ball rolling faster toward data sharing in a more meaningful way. So, define a problem, solve and share.
