Zurich-based business jet management company Swiss PrivateAviation has created a free iPhone app that allows customers to plan their business or leisure travel with the company's jets. The app also provides information about the company’s products and services.
The project was headed by Capt. Roland Blaser, a pilot for the company. “Swiss PrivateAviation wants to provide its customers with the most innovative tools for dealing with business and private jet flights within Europe and parts of the Russian Federation,” he explains. “Our iPhone app is the easiest way and a powerful tool to plan such flights and to ask for quotes. As far as I know, we are the only operator who offers an app like this and I'm sure our customers will like it.”
It’s an offline app that doesn't require an online data connection, says Blaser. “Usually app users prefer offline apps as they don't generate hidden connection costs,” he says. “Our whole database is included in the software and is stored on the iPhone.”
Our iPhone app was a cooperation between the company and Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur, Switzerland, says Blaser. “While I designed the functionality and the graphical user interfaces, two bachelor students transferred my wishes into a software code,” he says.
Swiss PrivateAviation’s app is currently available in English, German and Russian, and more languages will follow, says Blaser.
